The German tuning studio ABT Sportsline recently unveiled details of its new project - an extreme version of the Audi R8 GT RWD coupe. This racing car, named ABT XGT, will be produced in a limited run of just 99 units, matching the number of chassis provided by Audi to the tuning studio.
At the core of the ABT XGT is a 5.2-liter V10 engine, similar to the standard R8 GT RWD, powering the rear wheels. However, the engine's output has been increased from 612 to 630 horsepower. The abandonment of the Quattro all-wheel-drive system and extensive use of carbon fiber have reduced the weight to 1400 kg, making it 170 kg lighter than the standard model.
The development of the ABT XGT took two years, and several more months were required for approval. Over 40 individuals had to give their individual consent to the project. According to the tuner, it's not just a supercar modified for racing, but a full-fledged race car that's road-legal. The creators note that it's «barely distinguishable from the Audi R8 LMS GT2». Each unit will be unique and fully customized for its owner.
The interior of the car features a full safety cage and a steering wheel from the GT2 race car. The tuner also added a central lock, rear-view camera, handbrake, and a standard digital dashboard. New control elements for the air conditioning, turn signals, and exterior mirrors have been added to the front panel.
The software and control systems for temperature, braking, and fuel systems have been modified. The exhaust system has been replaced, and the cabin's sound insulation has been improved. The car's maximum speed reaches 310 km/h depending on the angle of the massive rear wing.
The ABT XGT is offered in four standard colors, but the tuner is ready to paint the car in any other shade as per client's request. The coupe is equipped with differently sized forged wheels: 19 inches in the front and 20 inches in the rear, with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires. The fuel tank capacity is 83 liters.
The ABT XGT can be purchased for 598,000 euros, which corresponds to 652,440 dollars at the current exchange rate.
