The small off-road vehicle Suzuki Jimny, a favorite among tuners, became the foundation for a unique project presented at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Show. This unusual vehicle was not created by professional tuners but by students of the Japan Automotive College (NATS).
The NATS Shakotan Jimny J1, as this vehicle is named, is built on the chassis of a Suzuki Escudo using two first-generation Suzuki Jimny models. Externally, the vehicle resembles the Toyota Mega Cruiser, known as the Japanese counterpart to the Hummer.
The project merged two Jimny bodies, explaining the vehicle's dimensions, the presence of a double windshield, and four front headlights. The pneumatic suspension allows the body to be nearly level with the ground. The unique appearance is complemented by special iMLA wheels fitted with Toyo tires.
The interior of the original Suzuki Jimny remains almost unchanged, except for the trunk, which has been adapted to install a powerful Diecock audio system with 14 speakers.
Under the hood of this unique "Hummer" is a standard 2.5-liter V6 from the Suzuki Jimny, producing about 160 hp. Considering the high ground clearance, engine power is not a crucial factor here.
